This article is a walkthrough guide on installing the Microsoft Teams app on a Chrome OS device such as a Chromebook laptop or ChromeBox.

  • Please note: This guide is applicable to personally owned devices, and may not work on devices owned or managed by Walla Walla Community College or other institutions.
  • At the time of this article's publishing, Microsoft has not released an app via the Chrome Web Store to install and run Teams outside of the general Chrome web browser, however, it is available from the Google Play Store for compatible devices. For a list of Andriod (Google Play Store) app compatible devices, please see https://sites.google.com/a/chromium.org/dev/chromium-os/chrome-os-systems-supporting-android-apps
  • Although your device may be compatible with Android (Google Play Store) apps, not all apps are guaranteed to work across all devices, and Microsoft Teams may be incompatible with your device.

To begin, log in to your device, expand the hidden icons on the bottom right corner of the app shelf, and select the gear icon for Settings.

Once opened, ensure that your device is up to date with the latest Chrome OS release by selecting About Chrome OS at the bottom of the left-hand tabs. A restart may be required after updating.

After confirming the OS is up to date, select the Apps tab, and then Turn on the Google Play Store for your device.

You should now be able to open the Chrome web browser and navigate to play.google.com to search for the Microsoft Teams app, published by Microsoft Corporation.Microsoft Teams logo

Once installed, the app will be available from the Launcher and can be pinned to the app shelf for convenience. You will be able to sign into Teams with your SID/NetID@wwcc.edu and network password. This will enable additional features not available from the web browser, such as Live Captioning for meetings with 3 or more participants, and notifications with messaging features.
